Hero Xtreme 200S key features
Styling and features
The all-new Hero Xtreme 200S looks largely similar in terms of design to the 150cc Xtreme Sports and gets significant makeover visually. The production model of the Xtreme 200S was showcased for the first time at the 2016 Auto Expo. It features some sharp and edgy styling, which looks attractive. Its design has been inspired by the ‘Cheetah’ design philosophy, which flaunts a sporty stance to attract mainly the youth generation. It gets a mono halogen headlight with dual LED pilot lights and an analogue-digital instrument console at the front. The rear gets an LED taillight and it runs on the sporty multi-spoke 17-inch wheels.
The Indian-spec Hero Xtreme features an all-new 200cc, four-stroke, single cylinder, air-cooled engine that is good enough to develop a maximum power output of 18.5 bhp at 8,500 revolutions per minute against a peak torque of 17.2 Nm at 6,000 revolutions per minute. The motor is fitted with a newly designed diamond frame chassis in order to accommodate the monoshock suspension at the rear. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox that transmits the produced power to the rear wheels.
Hero MotoCorp has tried to keep the kerb weight in check in order to attain greater top speed. The all-new Xtreme 200S is expected to ride at a top speed of 130 kmph. Compared to the Xtreme Sports, it is more powerful and is quite fuel-efficient as well. It gets a new i3S technology that makes it a frugal unit. It is estimated to return a mileage of around 45 kmpl on city roads and it goes to 50 kmpl on highways.
Suspension and Braking
The all-newXtreme 200S offers a stable riding experience even on bumpy tracks, as it gets the conventional telescopic forks at the front axle, while the rear features monoshock suspension unit. In terms of braking, the motorcycle comes equipped with disc brakes on both the wheels. Interestingly, it could be the first motorcycle from the Hero MotoCorp to feature an optional anti-lock braking system (ABS) that distributes the braking power to both the wheels uniformly in order to provide efficient braking.
The new Hero Xtreme 200S is most likely to be manufactured locally, which will surely help the company to cut down on the overall cost of production resulting in the aggressive pricing of it. It is most likely to be the most affordable entry-level bike in the league, which will be priced around Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 1.10 lakh.
Sporting an aggressive styling and a powerful engine, the bike is expected to provide some stiff competition to the likes of TVS Apache RTR 200, Yamaha FZ25 and Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
